The Air Concept Safari Bi FR440/Alpha 18 is a tandem two seat single engined flex wing aircraft with weight shift control. Rogallo wing with fin. Pilot suspended below wing in trike unit, using bar to control pitch and yaw/roll by altering relative positions of trike unit and wing. Wing braced from above by kingpost and cables, from below by cables; floating cross tube construction with double surface on half chord, enclosing cross tube; pre formed ribs. Undercarriage has three wheels in tricycle formation; no suspension on any wheels. Push right go left nosewheel steering independent from yaw control. Optional brake on nosewheel. Aluminium tube trike unit, without pod. Engine mounted below wing driving pusher propeller.
The Safari Bi was designed along the same principles as the single seater trike units from Air Concept, also using rectangular section Duralumin 6061T5 spars measuring 2.4 x 1.6 inch (60 x 40mm). As with virtually all tandem weight shift machines, the control bar is as easy to handle from the front seat as from the rear, but the Safari Bi takes dual control a stage further, as the throttles are accessible to both occupants and the nosewheel steering is twinned to the rear. The Safari Bi/Alpha 18 model uses a 190sq.ft (17.6 sq.m) wing which differentiates it from the two other two seaters offered from this manufacturer. As indicated from the FR440 part of the name, it is equipped with a Fuji Robin EC44 of nominal 440 cc capacity. The choice is left to the purchaser as to which version to fit either the EC44PM of 50 hp with electric start, or the EC44 2PM of 53 hp but hand started. Folded, the trike unit measures 6.7 x 2.8 x 3.4 ft (2.00 x 0. 80 x 1.00 m) and the wing 19.9 x 1.0 x 1.0 ft (6.00 x 0.30 x 0.30 m). Options include, apart from the choice of engine type, a nosewheel brake, a supplementary fuel tank and fairings.
The Safari Bi FR440/Alpha 20 is a combination of the Safari Bi FR440 trike unit with the Alpha 20 wing variations on the same theme but a system which offers an excellent choice to the customer. The EC44 2PM engine is optional.
The Safari Bi FR330/Alpha 20 is basically similar to the Safari Bi FR440/Alpha 18 but with a lower power engine and the Alpha 20 wing with a larger surface area. The structure of this trike unit is the same. The Robin EC34PM can be had with or without electric start and, married to a 214 sq.ft (19.8 sq.m) Alpha 20 wing, gives a lower stall speed than the Safari Bi FR440/Alpha 18 at any given angle of incidence.
Available ready to fly or alternatively as a kit, the kit includes all the parts and accessories necessary to build the trike unit and requires only a drill and a few spanners to assemble it. All cutting, piercing, preparation of cables and other operations which could be hard for an amateur are done by the manufacturer. Detailed plans come with each kit.

The range offered by Air Concept in 1982 was best understood by considering three trike units. First is a tubular structure single seat trike unit, the Safari, second comes the polyester Safari GT single seater and finally the two seater Safari Bi. With each trike unit the firm also supplies an appropriate flex¬wing, such as the Alpha or Alpha Racer for the single seaters and the Alpha 18, Alpha20, or Centaure for the two seaters. Each assem¬bly takes its name from its components, for example Safari/Alpha, the basic model, which we detail below. The suffix FR250 indicates which motor has been used, a Fuji Robin EC25PS in this case.
The Safari FR250/Alpha is a single seat single engined flex wing aircraft with weight shift control. Rogallo wing with keel pocket. The single seater Safari FR250/Alpha is transportable on a roof rack or trailer, the wing when folded measures 19.8 x 1.0 x 1.0ft (6.00 x 0.30 x 0.30 m).
The Safari GT FR250/Alpha and Safari GTL FR250/Alpha are the same as the Safari FR250/Alpha except: no suspension on nosewheel and glass fibre suspension on main wheels. Glass fibre trike unit, partially enclosed.
The Safari GT trike unit is entirely moulded in polyester with the exception of the vertical mast carrying the wing attachment, which is made of 2.20 x 0.08 inch (54 x 2mm) round section Duralumin AU4G1T4. The pod and its windscreen protect the pilot well from the vagaries of the weather. The only drawback to a faired in trike is that it necessitates the use of a trailer for transport; this trike for instance has a volume even without its wing of 6.6 x 2.0 x 3.4 ft (2.00 x 0.50 x 1.00 m). The machine is also offered in the Safari G TL version which benefits from all the options available for the basic GT model, these being tow hook, faired main undercarriage, wheel spats and propeller spinner. The trike unit ‘fuselage’ with windscreen and the three wheel spats were available separately from Eole 2000.

Air Concept is an enterprise created by Gilles Bru who, although he only started the company in December 1982, is fairly well known to hang glider pilots. For five years he has collaborated in the manufacture of hanggliders from the Eole 2000 company which, while not actually building trikes itself, contributes to the distribution of Air Concept products. Gilles Bru offers a complete range of single seat and two seat weight shift machines, with the accent being on safety and robustness. Significantly, he is one of the very first manufacturers to offer a one year warranty on engine construction faults.

Developed two/four-seat Bushmaster braced high-wing lightplane, first flown 1989.

The Air Capitol HangGliders Skyhog is a medium aspect glider which gives higher performance than a standard Rogallo. The use of positive dihedral and reflex makes it suitable for beginners. Extra large spars and leading edge stressing, which is tunable, allow a tight sail.
The airframe is made from 6061-T6 2in x .035 polished aluminium tubing, internally sleeved with 6061T6 1 15/16in aluminium tubing. The aluminium caps are cast.
All rigging is 3/32in aircraft quality cables that are completely encased in vinyl. All hardware is aircraft quality.
The sail is made from 3.0oz stabilised dacron. Load tapes are sewn into the sail to distribute loads. Basic colours were white, bright red and light blue. Other colours were availabe on special order. A smooth cast aluminium nose piece is fitted.
The pilot support is a full height adjustable soft seat that is padded. 5000 lb test webbing goes around the body. A prone harness was optional.
A top-stressing adjusting nut tightens all the cables simultaneously. Only one nut must be removed for the entire wing to fold up. The control bar is padded and can be left on the wing when folded.

Lufthansa exercised a decisive influence on the basic parameters, such as passenger capacity, range and engine choice, and, together with Air France, became the launch customer. Lufthansa first opted for the longer range, shorter fuselage A340-200, but soon supplemented them with the higher capacity extended fuselage A340-300.
Airbus Industries A340 Article
Launched simultaneously in June 1987 with the A330, the A340-300 first flew on 25 October 1991 and the type entered service with both Lufthansa and Groupe Air France on 1 March 1993 accommodating 250-440 passengers.
Sharing near identical systems, airframe, cockpit and wings with the A330, the twin-engine A330-300 is the same length as the A340-300
The four-engined A340-300 is the standard fuselage long-range aircraft (seating 295 with a range of 6,750 nm), while the A340-200, which first flew on 1 April 1992, is 4.27 m shorter (260 seats) and is an ultra-long-range version (7,550 nm).
Airbus’s ultra-long-range A340-500 has been granted type certification by the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA). The aircraft, which has a shorter fuselage and a longer range than the A340-600, first flew on 11 February 2002 and since then the two test aircraft have accumulated some 400 flight hours in more than 150 flights during the certification campaign. The -500 is capable of flights ranging over 8,650 nm and both the -500 and -600 versions of the A340 are powered by Roll-Royce’s Trent 500 engines. The first aircraft was scheduled for delivery to Air Canada in early 2003. The A340-600 is a long range, high capacity model, first flown on 23 April 2001. The -600 utilises LCD displays and taxi cameras.

Lufthansa was the first operator of the Airbus A340. It first flew the Airbus A340-200 in 1993, later retiring all eight of its examples by 2003. It’s also the largest operator of the A340-300, still flying in 2025 17 out of the 30 examples it took, and ordered 24 Airbus A340-600s, though only eight of these still fly for the German flag carrier.

Airbus prepared a corporate A340-600 for the Saudi Arabian oil company the Saad Group with a range of 8500 nm / 15,745 km carrying 90 passengers.

The A340 and A330 were launched simultaneously in June 1987, sharing near identical systems, airframe, cockpit and wings. The A330 is a medium/extended-range wide-body airliner for 295-440 passengers, first flown on 2 November 1992.
Airbus Industries A330 Article
Air Lingus leased three A330s from ILFC with the first two arriving in Dublin on 11 May 1994, and the third on 17 November 1994. Two more were acquired direct from Airbus in 1995 and 1997.
The A330-200 was launched on 24 November 1995 and is a longer-range (11,800 km) and shorter (by 5.33m) version of the A330-300, with the two aircraft having identical airframe, flight deck, wing and systems design. Designed to carry 256 passenger, the -200 has an additional centre fuel tank and an enlargened horizontal and vertical tail. First flown on 13 August 1997, and powered by CF6 engines, followed by a Pratt & Whitney PW4168 powered model on 4 December 1997.
A330-200s were converted to KC-30 inflight refuelling tankers.
In April 2006 the first RAAF Airbus A330-200 MRTT recorded its maiden flight. It was delivered to the EADS CASA facility near Madrid in May for installation of its aerial refuelling and associated systems. Five A330 MRTTs were on order for the RAAF. The first RAAF KC-30B flew after conversion in July 2007.
The twin-engine A330-300 is the same length as the A340-300, and, as it was developed simultaneously with the A340, its maiden flight was only about one year later on 2 November 1992.
