Drzewiecki, Stefan
Stefan Drzewiecki (1844-1938) was a World-renowned scientist and inventor, credited with – among others – designing kilometric counter for cabs (1867), automatic railway coupler (1872), device plotting ship’s course on map (1872), first submarine using a periscope (1877) and first one with electric propulsion (1888). From 1877 Russian Navy built 50 small submarines of Drzewiecki’s design. In 1901 navies of Russia and France introduced torpedo launchers operating on pressurized air designed by Drzewiecki. In 1892 he wrote (in France) theoretical work regarding scientific methods of manufacture of ship (and plane) propellers and in 1920 presented a general theory for screw-propeller thrust (which in turn led to creation of propellers with adjustable blades).
Druine
Roger Druine built his first aircraft in 1938 at the age of 17, and built a single-seat cabin monoplane, the Aigle, in 1948. His 1950 single-seat D.31 Turbulent was produced in small number by Rollason Aircraft & Engines and Stark Flugzeugbau, and remains available in plans form for home construction. Rollason also built the 1954 two-seat D.60 Condor (plans available). Also remaining available in plans form is D.5 Turbi two-seater, first flown 1951, as a development of Turbulent.
Driggs Aircraft Corp
USA
Founded at Lansing, Michigan in 1927 by Ivan H. Driggs, who designed and built his first aircraft in 1915. Later worked as engineer for Dayton-Wright. In 1924, in conjunction with Johnson Airplane and Supply Company, built two Driggs-Johnson DJ-1 Bumblebee racers, followed by a second version in 1925. Developed Dart Model 1 for Air Corps research on high-lift wings in 1926. Driggs products included Dart II and Skylark III. Driggs left to work for Luscombe on the 1934 Phantom I, and Driggs design rights went to Phillips Aviation in 1938.
Drewet, Oliver
Oliver H. Drewet (or Drewett, but definitely not Drewer) was born in Bombay, India in 1880 to European parents, who eventually settled in New Zealand in 1884. He returned to Asansol, India to work as an engineer. It was there that he built his glider.
When war broke out, Drewet joined the army as part of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and was killed in action on 8 May, 1915 at Gapa Tepe, on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey.

Dream Aircraft
In 1979, Yvan and Yves Desmarais founded, with their cousin Serge Gagné and backed by their mother Gisèle, the company D & G Inc. The company is specialized in Welding and assembly. After some modest beginnings in their home garage, D & G Inc. gains a solid reputation based on its integrity and the quality of its workmanship.
As the years pass, the company invests in new technology with the purchase of welding robots and in 1996, they move in a new 60,000 square feet plant. A couple of years later, the company invests again; this time, 1.5 million dollars is invested in the purchase of high technology machinery for sheet metal transformation.
Yvan Desmarais, the company’s vice-president, has always been fascinated by aviation. A pilot since he was 19 years old, he nurtured a dream which he transmitted to his business partners. His dream was of a highly secure plane; be it on wheels or on floats. A plane that would be solid, durable and easy to build.
With more than 20 years expertise in manufacturing and with Yvan Desmarais’s flying experience on many different aircrafts, the construction of the first prototype began in 1998. The first flight was done at the Bromont airport on May 12th 2001 with great success. Following this first flight, many more are accomplished in the month and with the necessary flying hours accumulated by June 7th 2001, the special flying certificate can be delivered. On October 3rd 2001, the first flight on floats is accomplished, again with great success.
