Phillips Aviation Co was founded from Western Airmotive Corp in 1940 in Los Angeles, California, to continue development of light two-seat monoplane, the Phillips I-B, designed originally by Aero Engineering Corporation.
1940: Acquired rights from Aero Engineering Corp and Driggs (Western Airmotive), Long Beach CA.
Also built CT-1 two-seat biplane.
1941: Rights to Skylark and D-333 motor sold to Ayers Aviation Corp, Reno NV.
Constructed a version of Denny Kitfox as Skyfox for marketing in Western Pacific region.
Self Reliance Development Wing built prototype of Lycoming powered three-seat primary trainer, the XT-001. Very similar to the Italian SIAI SF.260, of which 32 were bought for the PAR The SRDW also acquired the prototype of American Jet Industries’ Super Pinto COIN aircraft.
Government corporation established in 1973 to promote development of a Philippines aerospace industry. Aircraft manufacture was undertaken until 1982 by a subsidiary company, National Aero Manufacturing Corporation. Assembled 44 MBB BO 105 helicopters and 67 Britten-Norman Islanders. A four-seat utility high-wing monoplane powered by a 300 hp Textron Lycoming engine was designed. Assembled 24 SIAI-Marchetti S211 jet trainers, 18 SF.260TP turboprop trainers, and eight Lancair lightplanes. Became partner in Eurocopter Philippines to assemble Eurocopter helicopters from kits (plus sales and maintenance). Philippine Helicopter Services Inc subsidiary maintains BO 105s and MD 500s.
