Mike Sandlin designed and built what he calls “airchair” basic ultralight gliders. The Pig1, Goats1 & 4, and Bug4, are home built, basic ultralight gliders. Technically these aircraft are ultralight sailplanes, but they are best described as “airchairs”, which are simple, slow flying gliders with the pilot sitting out in the open air rather than inside a fuselage.
The airchair dersigns are intended to provide open air soaring, forgiving flight characteristics, convenient transport, simple “garage technology” construction, and a high level of crash safety. In the United States, all unpowered ultralights, including paragliders, hang gliders, and airchairs are regulated under FAR Part 103, which allows gliders to be built and flown with no direct official oversight as long as they weigh less than 155 lbs.
The complete descriptive drawings of the Pig1, Goat4, Bug4, and some of their predecessors are free and available for downloading in CAD format. In addition, the the Goat4 drawings can be viewed on his Web. His activities are noncommercial and all of the materials on his website are available for whatever purposes the user may consider worthwhile.

South Korea
Founded 1938, and Samsung Aerospace Industries Co Ltd. division established 1977, originally to undertake aero-engine work. Prime contractor among South Korean companies involved in producing F-16 fighters for the Republic of Korea Air Force under the Korean Fighter Program (120 to be delivered by 1999), is heading development of the KTX-2 lead-in fighter trainer/light combat aircraft (with Lockheed Martin of the U.S.A. as a partner since 1997; expected to fly in 2001), is developing the Kari eight-seat business aircraft, heads a South Korean consortium developing airliners, assembles and markets the Russian Mil Mi-26 helicopter, collaborates on the Bell 427 helicopter, and produces components for Bell Canada helicopters, Boeing airliners and the Canadian Dash 8 airliner.
Founded 1912 at Billancourt, Seine, by Emile Salmson (1859-1917) to develop radial type watercooled engines jointly designed by Canton and Unne as installed in French, British and Russian aircraft. In late 1915 Salmson turned to airplane construction. First was unorthodox Salmson- Moineau SM-1 of 1916, designed by Rene Moineau, with “buried” engine and twin tractor propellers. The Type 2 conventional two-seat reconnaissance tractor biplane was tested early 1917, with Salmson (Canton-Unne) engine. As the 2A2 it served with French and U.S. squadrons and 2,300 were built. At Armistice 2A2 converted to Limousine, used by several European airlines. In mid-1930s Salmson turned to light aircraft, producing D6 Cricri parasol monoplane with small Salmson air-cooled radial engine.
