V.L. Sääski II – Registration number: SÄ-122, Serial number: 11

First VL product was the Saa’ski two-seat trainer. A trainer designed by engineer K.W. Berger and A. Nieminen. The first aircraft designed in Finland for mass production. The Finnish Air Force used 34 Sääski aircraft in 1928 – 1941. In addition, 5 aircraft were in civilian and official use.

U S Airplane Co U S Flyer

U S Flyer NX6605

Built by the U S Airplane Co in 1928, the U S Flyer prototype NX6605 c/n11 was designed by L B Coombs and priced at $2,250-6,500. Originally powered by a 110 hp Anzani engine, the only one built was later powered with 90hp Curtiss OX-5 and Wright Whirlwind.

Ursinus Glider

In 1909 Engineer Oscar Ursinus of Frankfurt formed a team to promote the application of motorless flight. This team, mostly technical high school teenagers, studied early Otto Lilienthal theory and his bold experiments. After fabricating a glider of their own design they transported it to Rhön for trials. Oscar Ursinus became the first person to successfully fly a glider from the cliffs of Wasserkuppe.

Universal Aircraft Co 98 Trainer / 36

The 1934 Universal Aircraft Co 98 Trainer was a 1-2 place open cockpit biplane powered by a 40hp Ford A engine. Six were registered: N13950 c/n 3, N13973 c/n 7, N13999 c/n 18, N14884 c/n 11, N15179 c/n 10, and one with a 50hp Ford engine: N11597 c/n 50.

Others appear in the registrations as “Univeral 36” with a 40hp Continental (eg: 17671 c/n 7186-F), but the c/ns suggest those were American-Universal Flying Fleas.

Unruh-Albright Special II

The Unruh-Albright Special II construction was begun in 1937 by Marion Unruh, but it was not until after he had retired from USAF in 1959 that it was finished, in 1966. Registered N8635E, the open cockpit biplane first flew on 27 June 1966.
