Inverted air-cooled Wright 1460 not built in quantity and a complete switchover to inverted types for observation and pursuit types never occurred.
Eight Loening OA-1C with 480hp Wright IV-1460-1 engine were built, with modified tail surfaces and forward-firing machine gun moved to port upper wing.
There was one O-10, one XOA-1A, one OA-2, and one P-17 Wright IV-1460 powered built.
