An experimental version of the Su-2 with an M 90 engine, the Su 4, appeared in 1941, but this did not display a sufficient improvement over its predecessor, and was abandoned in favour of the Su 6 single seat assault aircraft designed around the experimental M 71 engine and intended to compete with Ilyushin’s Il 2.
