The Robert C. Stroop SP-7, created in 1940, was to combine the biplane’s landing characteristics and the monoplane’s speed characteristics.
On the runway the wing is in the X-wing position, and when in the air the wings are retracted to the monoplane position, the wheels automatically retracted.
