15 July 1944 Erich Sommer flew Bf 109 G-6/U2/A5, T9+CL experimentally fitted with puncture-proof tyres filled with foam rubber. On touchdown the port tyre left the rim, flipped, leaving Sommer unhurt but upside down for about 16 minutes.
