From the basic He 70, Heinkel evolved the He 170A in 1936. This differed chiefly in having a 910 hp Gnome Rhone 14K Mistral Major radial engine. The new engine rather spoilt the aircraft’s elegant lines, but the extra power raised the top speed by 55 km/h (34 mph), and 20 were sold to the Hungarian air force.
