
The US Navy Cessna 319A, an experimental Boundary Layer Control wing version of the OE-2, intended for investigation of STOL characteristics. The BLC ‘suction/ejection’ system reduced the stalling speed from 43 mph to 32 mph, and the take-off to 50ft from 600 ft to 450 ft.
The Cessna 319A carried no military markings other than the fuselage inscription ‘U.S. Naval Research Aircraft’.
With the stepdown rear fuselage of the OE-1 (L-19A) Bird Dog, the OE-2 posed the longer nose and more angular tail assembly of the Model 180.
