With import restrictions on American engines it was decided to fit a 90 hp Cirrus Minor I to an J/2 Arrow airframe. This version, which also flew in 1946, went on to become the J/4 Archer. The fuselage and wings of both types are identical. Accommodation is for two side-by-side.
Only 26 of the two-seat Archers were built.

Versions not produced were:
J/4S – Model J/4 fitted with a 100 h.p. Blackburn Cirrus Minor 2A powerplant.
J/4T Archer Special – Model J/4 fitted with a 90 h.p. Cirrus Minor 2A powerplant and an experimental tricycle undercarriage.
J/4 Archer Special – Model J/4T reverted to standard tailwheel undercarriage.
J4-100 – Model J/4 fitted with a 100 h.p. Continental 0-200 powerplant.
