Kurt Lessing migrated from Dresden to Australia after WWII. He was a very skilled machinist and proceeded to build this glider more or less in secret in his workshop at Woodend Vic.
In addition Kurt built a launch ramp 20 metres high with winches and an 800 metre catapult. He died before completion of the project.
Bill Riley bid for this machine at an auction and was astounded at the fact that two elderly ladies were bidding against him. When he questioned them after, one said that she was bidding to stop anyone trying to fly it and likely kill or maim themselves. Bill assured them that there would definitely be no attempt to fly the glider.
