Piper Pocono

This widebody 18-seat commuterliner was close to certification when Piper's merger troubles with Chris-Craft began in 1969; the recession of 1971 polished off the twin. Piper tried everything from souped-up eight-cylinder Lycomings to Pratt & Whitney radials, but none ever put out enough power to pull the roomy fuselage along comfortably. "What we should have done is put four Aztec engines on it" Pug Piper said later.
