Solar-Powered Aircraft Developments Solar One

The Solar One, made its public debut June 1979. 750 solar cells charge 24 accumulator cells to drive four electric motors linked together for a combined 4 hp. The aircraft, which looks like a conventional glider but with a pylon mounted power unit located on the nose immediately forward of the pilot, takes off at 20kts and has reached a maximum of 42kts.
