Papin & Rouilly Gyroptère

Gyroptère Modele B “Chrysalide” was designed by A. Papin and D. Rouilly, patented in 1911, built in 1913-14 and tested on March 31, 1915 at Lake Cercey in eastern France. The main feature of this elegantly engineered helicopter, rather gyrocopter, is that it was powered by a single blade - seen right - balanced by a counterweight that can be seen on the left. Powered by an 80 hp rated Le Rhône 9C that was placed at the centre where the pilot sat in a nacelle.
