Champion Long Beach Flyer
 In 1913 Frank Champion spent 4,000 dollars to build the "Long Beach Flyer" monoplane, with local merchants putting up much of the money. The plane, which was similar to contemporary Caudron designs, apparently flew well. Champion was killed when his plane broke up during a display in Kochi, Japan on November 1, 1917.
